DEMOTTE | Two California men were arrested Thursday on Interstate 65 after officers found more than $300,000 in their vehicle, police said.

Charles R. Allen, 30, of Emeryville, Calif., and Sivon P. Smith, 26, of San Francisco, were booked into the Jasper County Jail on Class C felony money laundering charges, according to Indiana State Police.

The men were traveling north at 12:15 p.m. when troopers stopped their vehicle near the DeMotte exit for traffic violations, police said.

State troopers and Hobart police found three suitcases with $315,288 inside the vehicle, police said. One of the men told police the money came from side jobs not claimed on their taxes.
