The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Jasper County were closed for two hours Wednesday night after a northbound semi drove through the center median, hitting cable barriers and pulling them across both southbound lanes.

According to Indiana State Police, at 8:16 p.m. a 2011 Freight liner was northbound on I-65 in the left lane at the 207 mile marker about two miles north of the Rensselaer exit when it left the roadway for unknown reasons.

The semi drove through the median, through the median cables barriers and onto southbound I-65, crossing both lanes.

The semi came to rest upright on the outer shoulder facing north with the cable barriers attached and strung across both lanes.

A 2008 Chevrolet Impala was southbound on I-65 when it hit the cable barriers, lost control and struck the underside of the semi's trailer.

The semi driver, a Missouri man, was treated and released at the scene. The 39-year-old Gary man driving the Impala was transported to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer with non-life threatening injuries to his arms.

The crash forced the closure of southbound I-65 for two hours as crews worked to remove the cables and semi from the roadway.
