A Crown Point man was airlifted with multiple injuries Friday morning after a crash on Interstate 65 in Jasper County that police say was alcohol related.
According to Indiana State Police spokesperson Sgt. Ann Wojas, Joseph R. Cedano, 21, was southbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette on I-65 about two miles north of the Remington/U.S. 24 exit when he went off the road to the left. Cedano overcorrected, sending his car into the grassy median.
Wojas said Cedano's Corvette went into the northbound lanes of I-65, where it struck a semi tractor-box trailer driven by Piotr Paczwa of Burbank, Ill. The Corvette spun out after hitting the semi and came to rest in the median.
Cedano was taken to Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer and was later airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Fort Wayne with fractured legs, injury to his pelvis, head trauma and lacerations to his arms.
Wojas said Cedano was charged with operating while intoxicated. The Corvette was a total loss and the truck had about $25,000 damage.
Traffic was backed up and slowed in the area due to clean up of the road, and removal of the injured man and vehicles.
