Lake and Porter counties will be under a winter weather advisory from 3 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Drivers during the morning commute can expected slippery, snow-covered roads. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected with lake-effect snow in the forecast.

The weather service cautioned drivers to be prepared for widely varying visibility falling below one half mile at times and snowfall rates up to one inch per hour.

Morning commuters near the lake in Northwest Indiana should be prepared for hazardous driving conditions.
