HALL OF FAME BROADCAST | Northwest Indiana

Lakeshore Public Television & The Lakeshore, 89.1 FM, will broadcast The Times' Northwest Indiana Business and Industry Hall of Fame luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. today from The Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville. The event will simulcast live online at www.TheLakeshoreFM.com. An encore presentation will air on Lakeshore Public Television at 10 a.m. March 14. The Times Media Company will honor five individuals who have made a substantial contribution to business and industry in the region. The event program includes remarks from Lt. Governor Becky Skillman regarding the Indiana economy.

WADO-KI KARATE | Lowell

Register by today for Wado-Ki Karate classes, open to children 6 through adults and sponsored by the Lowell Parks and Recreation Department from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturdays, March 13 through May 8 in the gym at the Tri-Creek School Corporation Administrative Building (formerly Oak Hill School), 195 W. Oakley Ave. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents; uniforms and testing for rank are available for an additional fee. Students are separated by rank and age after stretching exercises. This year-round program is multi-generational and can lead students all the way to a black belt.

GALA DINNER | Highland

RSVP by today as Parents as Teachers of Lake County celebrates 10 years of helping children with a gala at 6 p.m. March 20 at the Wicker Park Social Center, U.S. 41 and Ridge Road. Tickets are $100 per person or $800 for a table of eight. The evening includes local musicians and a silent auction. Parents as Teachers of Lake County, based in Hammond, strengthens families with personal home visits, parent group meetings, developmental screenings, and connections to other family resources.

MARCH FOR BABIES | Hobart

A kick-off party is set for 6 p.m. March 11 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30, for March for Babies, the March of Dimes' largest fundraising event that benefits all babies - those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive. The kick-off is open to all team captains and those who are interested in starting a team for the 2010 Lake County March for Babies on April 25 at Highland High School. Team captains will receive fundraising information kits and are invited to bring a door prize that represents their company. Refreshments will be served, and there will be games with prizes. NONPROFIT WORKSHOP | Rensselaer

Jasper and Newton County Community foundations will host the last of a three-part series of workshops from the Nonprofit Workshop Series for nonprofit boards, staff and volunteers from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 11 at the Carnegie Center, 301 N. Van Rensselaer St. The Indiana Nonprofit Resource Network is also a sponsor. "Creating a Development Plan and Fundraising" will be presented by Laura Edwards, development officer at Purdue University. Discussions will include setting monetary and engagement goals, planning the fundraising approach, annual funds and major gifts. Registration and networking begin at 6. SPAGHETTI DINNER | Hobart

A Workman family memorial dinner takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. March 11 at John Meister Elementary School gymnasium, 3300 Jay St. A memorial service and mural dedication will be held immediately following the dinner. Dinner will include spaghetti, salad, and bread sticks. Desserts and drinks will be available. Children's meals for ages 3 to 5 cost $3. Adult advance tickets for the all-you-can-eat dinner are $5 or $6 at the door. All proceeds go toward the memorial mural.

HUNTER SAFETY | Crown Point

Lake County Parks Department hosts an Indiana Department of Natural Resources hunter's education safety course from 6 to 9 p.m. March 12 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 13 at Lemon Lake County Park, 6322 W. 133rd Ave. This two-day class is recommended for hunters of all ages and experience levels and is required by state law for hunters born after Dec. 31, 1986. Participants who pass a written exam will receive a certified hunter's education card good for life, required for those hunting out-of-state and participating in state-sponsored hunts. Children 12 and younger are required to have an adult present at class. Registration is required. PIONEER DAY RESCHEDULED | St. John

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the fourth-grade Pioneer Day program at Crown Point Christian School, 10550 Park Place, has been postponed and rescheduled for March 16. Each student will become the pioneer of their choice from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Visitors will see Abraham Lincoln, Davy Crockett, Laura Ingalls and others during a Pioneer Wax Museum. The classes will also enjoy a pioneer feast featuring food from the time period.
