Registration is now being accepted for the Fall 2010 Developmental Preschool program at the Hobart Family YMCA, 601 W. 40th Place. The Gary Public Library's Senior Citizens Friendship Club is sponsoring a trip to a murder mystery at the Oscar Swan Mansion in Geneva, Ill. Deadline for reservations and payment is April 7. QUILTING VOLUNTEERS | Hobart
Volunteers are needed to design the quilt-top and sew it together for the annual quilt made by quilters at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Highway. A quilt has been fashioned almost every year since 1979, and Friendship Star quilt blocks were donated in 2009 for this year's project. once the top is sewed together, it will be put in a frame and completed during quilting bees held the fourth Sunday of every month, May through October, in Wood's Mill at the park. Meet from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through April 29, in the Visitor Center to help with this project.

Registration is due April 8 for a family nature crafts program that takes place at 1 p.m. April 11 at Gibson Woods Nature Preserve, 6201 Parrish Ave. Spend an afternoon with your family learning about Earth Day. Visit the milk jug dome and learn some interesting and unusual facts about recycling, then construct a sculpture out of recyclable materials. Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County will present "Sleep Apnea and Other Senior Sleep Problems" at locations in Lake and Porter counties in April. This informational program will discuss the causes, symptoms, complications, and treatment options in regard to sleep apnea and other senior sleep problems. DUNES CAMPS | Northwest Indiana
Dunes Learning Center has scheduled a number of information sessions for its Summer Adventures in the Dunes Camps. The camps provide five days and five nights for children to explore the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The information sessions will be held April 8 at the Munster Town Hall, 1005 Ridge Road; April 14 at the Valparaiso Public Library, 103 Jefferson St.; April 15 at the Lake County Library, 1919 W. U.S. 30; and April 21 at the Michigan City Library, 100 E. Fourth St. All information sessions start at 5:30 p.m. and prior registration is not required. Camps cost $290 and include all meals and overnight accommodations from Sunday afternoon to Friday morning. Dunes Discovery Camps for ages 9 to 12 will be June 20 to June 25 and a second session June 27 to July 2. ParKids Discovery Camp for ages 7 to 13 will be held July 25 to July 30.

COMMUNITY THEATER | Hammond
The Hammond Community Theatre presents "The Dixie Swim Club," a comedy directed by Don Taylor. The play centers on five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, who set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. "The Dixie Swim Club" focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years. Performance dates are April 9, April 10, April 16, April 17 and April 18. DINNER/DISCUSSION | Hammond
The Rev. John Lefko, first president of Calumet College of St. Joseph, will be the topic of the college's first dinner and discussion at 6:30 p.m. April 9. Professor Walter Skiba will talk about the life and accomplishments of Lefko and focus on why he was so committed to Catholic education. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in the Specker Library. The college is at 2400 New York Ave. Menu includes salad, meat and vegetable lasagna, fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Proceeds benefit the college's Drama Club.
