DOWNTOWN PLAN MEETING | Hammond
The city of Hammond will host a final public meeting for the recently adopted Downtown Plan from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Indiana Dabney University, 5217 Hohman Ave. The Downtown Plan, which was adopted by the Hammond Redevelopment Commission on Dec. 1, addresses goals and action steps for future development in the downtown area. Teska & Associates has worked with Hammond residents and local stakeholders to develop a plan to revitalize the downtown area. The final public meeting will be held to share the results of the planning process with the public. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Hammond Gammu Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa is looking for applicants to sponsor for a $1,000 scholarship at the state level of Tri Kappa. Any full-time student enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate program that has completed at least one academic year and has a Hammond home address may apply. The criterion used by the Tri Kappa selection committee are academic achievement, strong goals, extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer service. The Lionel Train Show is back at the Whiting Community Center,1938 Clark St., from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 17. Presented by the Lionel Modular Train Club, which was founded in 1988 by area train enthusiasts, the show is free of charge and open to the public. New this year will be a "working highway system" incorporated into the displays.
