MARDI GRAS SHOW | Schererville

The vendor registration deadline is today for the 18th Annual Mardi Gras Fashion Show hosted by the Schererville Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 16 at The Patrician Banquet Center, 410 E. U.S. 30. Cocktails and boutiques begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. The ticket deadline is Feb. 5. Silent auction items should be dropped off at the banquet center.

CHILI SUPPER | Hobart

The 12th annual Hobart Kiwanis Club chili supper will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 in the St. Bridget School gymnasium, 107 Main St. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 9 and younger. Carry-outs will be available.

INTERNATIONAL CUISINE | Hobart

Northwest Indiana Adult Guardianship Services Inc. in conjunction with the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Northwest Indiana present a fundraising event, adventures in international cuisine, from 6 to 10 p.m. Jan. 28 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30. Proceed will fund adult guardianship services for incapacitated adults as well as provided culinary arts scholarship opportunities for future chefs. The Northwest Indiana agency serves Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper, Newton and Starke counties. Tickets are $100 per person, which includes a multiple-course dinner featuring a variety of ethnic cuisines prepared by top chefs. Sponsors and advertisers as well as donations of items to be auctioned off are welcomed.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT | Merrillville

PASTA DINNER | Merrillville

Monsignor Hoffman Council 13003 Knights of Columbus will host its annual All-You-Can-Eat Pasta Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at St. Joan of Arc Church Hall, 200 E. 78th Ave. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 7 to 11; younger children eat free. Dinner includes salad and garlic bread. Desserts, soft drinks and adult beverages will be available for an additional charge. Proceeds benefit the Prayer Shawl Ministry and Faith Formation Program.

DRAMA IN COURTROOM | Crown Point

Tickets are on sale for the Agatha Christie courtroom drama "Witness for the Prosecution" at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 and 2:30 p.m. Jan. 31 the third-floor courtroom in the Old Courthouse on the downtown square. The Friday night performance has been added due to the demand for tickets; a Saturday evening show has sold out. The production is a fundraiser for the old courthouse, which is run by the Lake Court House Foundation Inc. without the help of taxpayer dollars. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. The price includes a preshow reception in the Maki Ballroom which begins 45 minutes before each performance and includes wine, punch coffee and desserts.

GUITAR LESSONS | Lowell

Register by Jan. 29 for eight weeks of guitar lessons offered by the Lowell Parks and Recreation Department for ages 8 through adults on Wednesdays, Feb. 3 to March 24 in the music room at Lake Prairie Elementary School, 11601 W. 181st Ave. Beginners will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. and Intermediates will meet from 7 to 8. Instructor is Eric Lambert, a professional guitarist and teacher for more than 35 years. Students must provide their own guitar. Cost is $85 for residents and $90 for nonresidents.

POLICE ACADEMY | Schererville

The Schererville Metropolitan Police Commission is accepting applications for the next session of the Schererville Citizens Police Academy until 5 p.m. Jan. 29. Schererville residents and business owners 18 and older are eligible to apply for the 10-week session, scheduled to begin Feb. 11 and meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Class curriculum includes patrol functions, criminal investigations, accident investigations, telecommunications, firearms and use of force issues as well as other police related subjects. There will also be an opportunity to tour the police facility and discuss current issues such as use of force, pursuit policies and evidence collection.

A Prom Dress Resale fundraiser will be held by Hanover Central Dollars for Scholars from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 30 at Hanover Central High School, 10120 W. 133rd Ave. Students identification will be needed to purchase dresses. All dresses will be sold for $30 or less. Cash sale only. LEGO CHALLENGE | Schererville

Schererville Parks and Recreation Department is offering a three-week eGenius Challenge Academy using LEGO NXT Mindstorm Robots from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Jan. 30 through Feb. 13 in the Schererville Town Hall Community Room, 10 E. Joliet St. Students are guided by adult mentors and their own imaginations to solve real world inspired science, technology, engineering, and mathematics challenges. "Galaxy Battle" will be the mission for this session. Transform a robot from ground-based vehicle to combat fighter missions. Students will program their robots to protect against alien force attacks. Fee is $65 for residents and $68 for nonresidents. KIDS FUN FAIR | Cedar Lake

Hanover Central Key Club will host its Annual Free Kids Fun Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 31 at Hanover Central High School’s east gym, 10120 W. 133rd Ave. Open to school-age children, free activities will include a Moonwalk, bike safety course, carnival games, and a drawing for two bicycles. Booths will be set up promoting activities for youth in the community. Youth agencies and organizations are welcome to set up for a nominal fee; call for an application.

ROCK STARS | Munster

A Calumet Chamber Musicians concert will be presented in conjunction with the South Shore Arts exhibit "The Elvis Tribute Show: A Diamond Jubilee," at 3 p.m. Jan. 31 at The Center for Visual & Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. This concert of classical music reveals celebrities of the musical past, including Weber, Wagner, Liszt, Prokofiev and baroque master G.P. Telemann. Admission is $15. RSVP.

APPLY FOR A GRANT | Crown Point

Grant application packets are available from the Crown Point Community Foundation, Inc. with an application form and guidelines for proposal evaluation. The application deadline date is Feb. 1. Grants from the Crown Point Community Foundation, Inc. Endowment Fund will be made to organizations and community projects which impact the area served by the foundation. Fields of Interest which will be considered for funding include: education, health and human services, civic affairs, preservation, conservation, arts and culture. The Crown Point Community Foundation is interested in funding projects that will improve the quality of life for citizens in the Crown Point area, according to Patricia Huber, president of the foundation. SKATING AT THE PARK | Merrillville

Ice skating will be available through Feb. 28 (weather permitting) at the Deep River Waterpark Ice Skating Plaza, 9001 E. U.S. 30. Hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, 2 to 10 p.m. Fridays, noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 9 p.m. Sundays. The rink will also be open on school holidays. Fees are $4 for adults, $3 for ages 14 and younger and seniors 62 and older, and free for spectators. Skate rental is $5. Water park season pass holders receive a $1 discount on admission and skate rental, and group discounts are also available.
