Starting Monday, drivers along the Borman Expressway will notice lane and exit ramp changes, as part of the multimillion-dollar road widening project.
Travelers heading east between Broadway and Central Avenue will drive on new concrete pavement, the Indiana Department of Transportation said. During nighttime hours Monday and Tuesday, the eastbound portion's center and right lanes will be moved south onto the new pavement. On Wednesday and Thursday nights, the eastbound portion's left lane also will shift south, eliminating the express lane.
The eastbound lanes east of the Interstate 65 south ramp will feature two through lanes and one through/ramp lane separated by a concrete wall, INDOT said. The separated through/ramp will let traffic access ramps to I-65 north and Central Avenue, or to continue east on the Borman.
The new lane pattern will remain in place through next summer. The third and final phase of the Major Moves project will begin in summer when the west lanes will be widened.
Ramps that will open next week:
- Interstate 80/94 east to I-65 east
- I-80/94 east to Central Avenue
- Broadway to I-80/94 east (this ramp will open on or after Nov. 13).
Ramp that will remain closed:
- I-65 south to I-80/94 east (for detour, take northbound I-65 to east U.S. 12/20 to east U.S. 20 to south Ind. 51 to east I-80/94). - By Times Staff
