buy this photo PHOTO PROVIDED BY JON FOSTER Wanna good scare? Come check out Jon Foster’s ninth annual “killer” Halloween display at 1401 Madison Ave. in Dyer on Halloween night. See giant spiders, lots of animatronic monsters, and characters from many different horror movies including the Jigsaw puppet from "Saw", Hannibal Lecter and Freddy Krueger. The display will consist of a front yard tableau that continues through the house and into the back yard. Stop by anytime between 5 and 10 p.m.

There's plenty of spooky places and sweet treats awaiting costumed creatures this Halloween weekend. Here's a list of events and activities:

TRAIL OF TERROR | Lowell

Lowell High School will present its third annual Haunted Trail of Terror from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Oct. 31, beginning on the west side of the building. Monsters, ghouls, and goblins will be there to escort guests through the haunted forest. Visitors should park in the high school's north parking lot. Sponsored by the LHS Academic Teams, cost is $5 per brave visitor and the walk takes about 15 minutes as it winds through the Lowell High School forest. Guided by a gremlin from the crypt, visitors will be treated to a special (and absolutely true) story as the creepies and the crawlies spring out from behind trees, beneath bridges, and out of coffins.

PUMPKIN DISPLAY | Griffith

The annual pumpkin display is being planned at the Barenie family home, 917 E. Miller St. Three generations of the family create a themed display consisting of 35 to 40 carved pumpkins. This year there are three pumpkins over 1,000 lbs. each, contributing to a total of 12,000 pounds of pumpkin carved. The initial lighting is scheduled for dusk today. There is no charge and viewing will continue for about one week, weather permitting.

HAUNTED HOUSE | Calumet City

Calumet Memorial Park District's Haunted House: Frightmare is from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Oct. 30 at the Finneran Poolhouse, corner of Lincoln Avenue and Freeland Avenue. The fee is $3 per victim. This is not recommended for young children.

NIGHT WALK | Munster

The Bieker Woods Night Walk will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today and Oct. 30. Due to construction at the School Town of Munster, the parking and entrance have changed for this event; park in the Community Park parking lot near the Babe Ruth field. The entrance will be near the Babe Ruth Concession Stand. This annual event offers a frightfully good time as Munster Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Munster Parks and Recreation Department, along with local residents, transform Bieker Woods into a scary, yet fun experience. Tour guides lead participants to new thrills and chills around every turn. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult. If you scare easily, enter with caution. Fee is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. On-site ticket sales begin at 6 p.m. The line formation and ticket sales will be cut off at 8:30.

BOO TA DOO | Lake Station

Bellaboo's Play and Discovery Center presents its first "Boo Ta Doo" The Black Cat's Meow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

today at Three Rivers County Park, 28th Avenue and Colorado Street. A purrrfect evening for trick or treaters 8 and younger and their caregiver to enjoy the safe and friendly environment of Bellaboo's. Festive snacks, silly scavenger hunts, Cooky Children's Cooking, a Less than Spooky Storytime, and a Costume Catwalk are just a few of the features.Cost is $10 for the first child, $6.50 for each additional, $5 for adults; infants attend free. Space is limited. Costumes, smiles and reservations required.

SPOOKY TALES | Schererville

Schererville Parks and Recreation Department will host a free evening of spooky tales around the glow of a campfire at 6:30 p.m. today at Redar Park, Austin and Gregory streets. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and a snack will be provided.

TRICK OR TREAT | Merrillville

The Sterling House of Merrillville will host its annual Community Trick or Treating from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at 8253 Virginia St. All children 12 and younger are invited for a spooktacular good time. There will be indoor trick or treating from room to room, a haunted house, games and snacks.

TOWN HALL TREATS | Merrillville

Ghosts and goblins 5 and younger are invited to trick-or-treat in a safe, warm and dry environment from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Merrillville Town Hall, 7820 Broadway. Town employees will supply the treats.

HEBRON HAUNTED HOUSE | Hebron

The Hebron national Junior Honor Society will sponsor a Hebron Haunted House from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for younger kids today and 7:30 to 10 p.m. for anyone. On Oct. 30 times are 7:30 to 10 p.m.. The lights will be off and lots of scaring will take place. The cost of the haunted house is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $1 per person during kid time today. all proceeds are used to help Angel Tree families within Hebron. Last year we raised over $3,000 which we used to help families on local Angel Trees. Use the middle school concession stand entrance.

HOUSE OF HORROR | East Chicago

East Chicago Parks & Recreation Department will present a Glass House of Horror from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 at the Greenhouse, 1615 142nd St. Cost: is $3 for age 12 and younger and $5 for ages 13 and older.

HAUNTED HOUSE | Kouts

Kouts American Legion will host a Haunted House from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the legion. the donation is $1 which will go towards the Thanksgiving dinner for the needy which will be held on Thanksgiving Day at the legion.

HALLOWEEN PARTY | Chicago Heights

Little ghosts and goblins and their parents are invited to enjoy a Halloween extravaganza filled with candy, hay rides, carnival games, and more at Prairie State College (PSC) from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in the college's Prairie Center gym, located on the main campus, 202 S. Halsted St. Halloween Family Fun Fest is for children through age 12 and their families. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. In addition to fun and games, the Chicago Heights police and fire departments are planning presentations about fire and personal safety.

HALLOWEEN FUN | Roselawn

Roselawn American Legion Post 238, Ind. 10 between Interstate 65 and Ind. 55. will be having a Halloween Party from 9 p.m. to midnight Oct. 30 with karaoke music by Rita Edwards.

HAUNTED TRAILS | Porter County

Region 2 LaPorte and Porter County Abate presents the Haunted Trails of Sunset Hills on Oct. 30 and 31. Gates open at 6 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. First tractor out at 6:30 p.m. and last tractor out at 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person; children 6 and younger are free. There will be a concession stand with food, drinks and a bake sale.

HAUNTED HOUSE | Hammond

St. John Bosco Youth Group will host a Two-Story Haunted House from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 30 in the parish hall at St. John Bosco Church, 7111 Columbia Ave. Not recommended for children younger than 6, cost is $8 for adults, $7 for high school students and $6 for children through middle school age.

MOON WITCH | Merrillville

Merrillville Community Planetarium will present a program titled Moon Witch at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 and 31 at the facility inside Pierce Middle School, 199 E. 70th Ave. This is a program for families about the moon and its changing appearance based upon a character named Diane, who is frightened on Halloween by her brother's stories about a "moon witch." Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested. The gift shop will be open and, weather permitting, and outdoor observing session will be available following the program. Large groups can arrange private shows.

TRUNK OR TREAT | Munster

Munster Christian Reformed Church is hosting a free Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31, regardless of weather, at the church, Ridge Road and Hohman Avenue. There will be candy, crafts, games and a best costume contest for the kids. Hot dogs, hot cider and hot coffee will be served while supplies last.

HALLOWEEN PARTY | Chesterton

American Legion Post 170 at 798 Wabash St. will have a Halloween Party with entertainment by Delta Straight Band at 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Costume party with cash prizes, drink specials, and food. Everyone is invited to join in on the fun. There is no cover charge.

Dyer Lions Club will host a Halloween Party for all children, young and old, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the St. Joseph School gym, 430 Joliet St. Costume contest, games, snacks, music and prizes.

HALLOWEEN EVENT | Portage

Diamond Plaza on U.S. 6 in front of the IMAX Theater will be hosting a Trick or Treat Halloween event from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 31. The event will include a Moonwalk, candy, food, games, giveaways and chances to win movie tickets. There is no cost to attend the event and is being sponsored by the businesses of Diamond Plaza and the Portage 16 IMAX.

COSTUME PARTY | Highland

Plaza Lanes will host a Halloween Costume Party from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 31. For $35 per couple, participants receive unlimited bowling, free shoe rental, food buffet and one complimentary drink per person. Prizes for scariest, funniest and best costume. For those 21 and older. Random "spooktacular" prizes. Make reservations.

HALLOWEEN TREATS | St. John

St. John Mall will offer a bounce house in its parking lot for children from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 31 just north of 93rd Avenue on U.S. 41. Merchants will be handing out treats, and no costume is required. There will also be treats for adults.

PUMPKIN PALOOZA | Chesterton

The European Market season is coming to a close this year on Oct. 31 and parents can bring the kids in their costumes to trick or treat with the Market's vendors. This closing event, or Pumpkin Palooza, will also feature a booth for children to decorate small pumpkins provided by the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce. There will be spooky music and decorations along with the pumpkin decorating tent and trick or treating. Families interested in purchasing pictures of their children in costume will have the opportunity to do so by stopping by MJ Photography's booth which now has the ability to print images on-site. The market is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 220 Broadway and third Street.

HALLOWED HALLS | Chicago

Celebrate Halloween with Barrel of Monkeys and fun-filled family activities at the Chicago Cultural Center from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 31. The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs celebrates Halloween with theater ensemble Barrel of Monkeys in HALLOWED HALLS: ON STAGE!, a full day of interactive workshops and performances for families. Theater professionals will train young trick-or-treaters to be their very best costumed character. The activities include a mask and costume accessory-making craft, a playwriting and acting workshop, and a hilarious performance by Barrel of Monkeys. All of the activities are free and open to all families in the spookily decorated GAR Hall and Claudia Cassidy Theater of the Chicago Cultural Center, at 78 E. Washington St. Activities are recommended for children ages 7 to 12, and all young participants should be accompanied by an adult.

HALLOWEEN OPEN HOUSE | Valparaiso

Brookdale Clare Bridge of Valparaiso will host a Trick or Treat open house from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 31 at 2501 Valparaiso St. this is for children through age 10 to come trick or treat and share their Halloween costumes with the residents. Refreshments will be provided along with treats from the residents. Clare Bridge is a licensed memory care assisted living. Call for reservations.

TREATS & COSTUMES | Hammond

A free Halloween Party with a trunk or treat event and costume contest will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 at Woodmar Baptist Church, 7146 Chestnut Ave. Games and prizes for children, a Bounce House and free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and pop. Costume Contest prizes include an MP3 player, a pumpkin full of candy and a stuffed animal. All ages are welcome.
