HAMMOND | The Hammond Urban Enterprise Association has announced the names of 26 young adults who achieved an excellence award for their efforts in the Summer Youth Workforce program.

The program employed 62 Hammond high school and college students in 25 businesses and organizations in the region.

Twelve interns worked for $8 an hour full-time, earning approximately $2,100 for the entire eight-week program, according to a news release from the association.

Another 50 high school students worked for $7.25 an hour for four hours a day for six weeks, earning approximately $825 for the entire program.

Twenty-six students received recognition from their work-site supervisor for being a superior worker.

A raffle was held for all 65 student workers for a laptop, won by Lawonda Favors, of Hammond.
