HEADED TO STATE | Crown Point
Crown Point High School's Academic Decathlon team took first place in the Gavit Area Regional with a score of 33,566, the second highest score in the state. The team now advances to the state finals Feb. 12 and 13 at Purdue University in West Lafayette. Senior Ryan Farrell took first place in the honors division, senior Sam Sanders took first in the scholastic division, and junior Taylor Cantrell took first in the varsity division. The team studied 10 events revolving around the topic of the French Revolution. Other team members include juniors Carmen Siew, Amelia Claus, Derek Hutchinson, Gabby Touchette, Catherine Fleszewski, Holly James, Ali Amodeo, Sarah Davis and Fabiola Jimenez. The team is coached by John Lambersie.
