Summer may be over, but there is still plenty happening in the Hub City. This Saturday, downtown Crown Point has a lot to offer children and adults of every age.

Buy it from Troop 45

Boy Scout Troop 45 will hold its annual garage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot of Ron and Son's, South Main and Walnut Street.

Donations are still being accepted from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the First Presbyterian Church, 218 S. Court St. If you would like to donate items but need help bringing them to the Scouts, call Mary at (219) 662-8047 to arrange for a home pickup.

Congratulations to the troop's two newest Eagle Scouts, Casey Paczkowski and C.J. Hopp. For Casey's Eagle project, he removed the brick patio on the west side of the Old Lake County Court House, planted grass and made covers for the air conditioning units. C.J. made flag holders for the veteran's graves at Maplewood Cemetery.

For more information on Scouting and Troop 45, contact Emmett Hainsworth at (219) 663-0756.

More about Dillinger

The Old Sheriff's House will host a book signing at 9 a.m. Saturday with special guests Mike and Travis Thompson joining author Carol Sissom. Mike is the nephew and Travis is a grand-nephew of John Dillinger.

Sissom is the author of "Banking with Dillinger." Copies will be available for $20.

The Old Sheriff's House will be open for tours and The Old Sheriff's House Foundation will display a bullet and casing fired from the Thompson Sub Machine gun stolen from the Lake County Jail in the 1934 Dillinger escape. They are in a display case along with a Certificate of Authentication signed by Porter County Sheriff Lane.

A silent auction will begin Sept. 19 for the items, with a final bid date to be announced.

Watch the parade

The Great Lakes Shrine Convention's 60th Anniversary Parade will kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Taft Middle School, 1000 S. Main St., heading north to the square and then down South Street toward Col. John Wheeler Middle School on Joliet Street to disperse.

The parade will consist of 50 to 80 units, including the Lake County Pipes and Drums.

Get a car wash

Trinity Lutheran School fifth-graders will host a car wash from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at 250 S. Indiana Ave. to raise money for Camp Lutherhaven. Donations will be accepted.

Congratulations to Trinity Lutheran students Noah Wilkes and Sophie Reiners, chosen as Students of the Month for September.
