CROWN POINT | Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 63-year-old woman with murder in connection with the stabbing death of her former boyfriend in Gary on Saturday.
The suspect, Bernice Ingram, had told police that Tommie Hardy, 50, argued with an unknown female who had fled the house, a probable cause affidavit filed with the Lake County clerk shows.
When police arrived at Ingram's West 15th Avenue home, they found Hardy dead on a bed. Officials said he bled to death.
Ingram told police she rented a room to Hardy and another man, the court record states.
Ingram initially told police she found Hardy bleeding on the bed, and she and another person tried to help Hardy. A type of tourniquet was found wrapped around Hardy's lower leg.
Ingram later admitted she stabbed Hardy -- who allegedly had been drinking -- during an argument, court records show.
Coroner's investigators found Hardy died of a stab wound to the leg that severed a main artery.
