SCHERERVILLE | The Schererville Police Department will not receive funding for new officers in the first round of distributions through the Community Oriented Policing Services grant.
The Police Department was one of many across the country that applied for the grant. The town requested funding to cover the salary of up to three new officers for three years. After three years, the town would pick up the cost of the salaries.
The department is in a "pending" status for another round of grant money distribution, Police Chief Dan Smith said. - BY TIMES STAFF
