HIGHLAND | The Wednesday Strikers bowling league from Plaza Lanes decided instead of buying each other Christmas gifts and participating in a grab bag gift exchange they would support a needy charity, according to league President Joan Ortman.
After seeing an article in The Times about Jacob's Ladder Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, a juvenile physical rehabilitation center at 332 W. 806 N. in Valparaiso, the league secretary felt in her heart that was the charity to help.
A phone call to the executive director gave them information about what the center needed.
The league consists of 20 lady bowlers who shopped for paper towels, Kleenex, disinfectant wipes, office supplies and toys. In place of a grab bag, each bowler donated $10, which will pay for a month of therapy for two of the children at the center.
Ortman, Vice President Maureen Woodward and Secretary Mary Jane Gerlach delivered the items to Executive Director Mariann Frigo.
