HAMMOND | A Hammond woman is collecting 500 pairs of new and gently used shoes this month for a school and orphanage in Haiti.
Judy Wahl is asking all Hammond schoolchildren to turn in their clean outgrown shoes. Sizes should be marked on tape on the bottom of the shoes. The shoes will be donated to the Maranatha School & Orphanage in Haiti, begun in 2002 by Michael Fedele, of Hammond.
Several Hammond public schools have collection boxes. Donations are also accepted at the school administration office, 41 Williams St. For more information call Wahl at (219) 931-7203.
Adults working with youth groups that would like to help sort and pack the shoes for shipping should contact Wahl for more information.
