CROWN POINT | A two-county pursuit of a traffic offender ended when the man's car struck a Lake County police car, a spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
James Hill, 22, of the 3900 block of Lincoln Street in Gary, ran a stop sign at 4 a.m. Tuesday at 41st Avenue and Calhoun Street in Calumet Township, spokesman Michael Higgins said. Hill drove northbound on Burr Street and onto eastbound Interstate 94 with police in pursuit, deploying stop sticks the driver managed to avoid.
Hill's car exited the expressway at Ind. 249 in Portage, where he struck stop sticks deployed by Portage police, Higgins said. Hill continued into a subdivision where the car struck a Lake County squad car and stopped.
Hill's car was found to have been stolen in Gary, Higgins said. Hill is in jail on auto theft charges and numerous traffic offenses, he said.
