MERRILLVILLE | A group of local women is hoping their younger counterparts will "read all about it" and then take that knowledge and make their dreams come true.

Lake County Public Library recently received a donation of books geared toward young girls from the Calumet Area Branch of the American Association of University Women.

Four sets of 25 books were donated, one each to the Central library, at 1919 W. U.S. 30, Merrillville; the Dyer-Schererville branch at 1001 W. U.S. 30, Schererville; the Highland branch at 2841 Jewett St.; and the Munster branch at 8701 Calumet Ave.

The book titles range from "You Can Be a Woman Engineer" and "You Can Be a Woman Architect" to "You Can Be a Woman Oceanographer."

The goal is to encourage young girls to dream big and to provide them with role models. Each book describes a real woman who has a particular career and what she did to become exactly what she wanted to be and reach her goal. The books conclude with hands-on lessons that focus on each topic.
