CROWN POINT | Lake County Commissioners voted Wednesday to approve spending $2.7 million in federal stimulus money to repave several miles of north and south county highways.
Lake County Highway Superintendent Marcus Malczewski said the county hopes to begin later this year resurfacing three miles of Ridge Road in Calumet Township between Grant Street in Gary and Colfax Street in Griffith. The work will cost $987,751.
He said the county will spend $801,267 to improve a 2 1/2-mile section of Morse Street between 149th Street in Cedar Lake to the northern boundary of the town of Lowell, as well as a 2 3/4-mile section of Cedar Lake Road between 121st Avenue in Crown Point to 133rd Avenue near Cedar Lake.
The county will spend $918,000 to repave 2 1/2 miles of Colfax Avenue between 231st Avenue and Belshaw Road south of Lowell, and a 2 3/4-mile section of 231st Avenue between Colfax Avenue and Monon Road.
Malczewski said no local tax money is involved in the three construction projects.
