GARY | Urban League of Northwest Indiana Inc. and The Infinite Scholars Program of Missouri Inc. have joined forces to present the Infinite Scholars Program's Annual Scholarship Fair for Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties.

This event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at the Genesis Convention Center at One Genesis Center Plaza in Gary. Interested students must register online by the Sept. 22 deadline and print out an admission ticket.

Those interested in attending this free event can contact the Urban League of Northwest Indiana at (219) 887-9621.

"In our efforts to help increase the number of Hoosiers that pursue their higher educational endeavors, we are inviting all high school and charter school juniors, seniors and recent high school and community college graduates located throughout Northern Indiana to participate in this highly anticipated event," said an organizer.

Organizers are expecting the participation of at least 50 recruiters representing colleges and universities nationwide who are looking for qualified students who reside in the State of Indiana and are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education.

What makes this scholarship fair unique and different from others is  recruiters will issue partial or full scholarship awards and acceptance letters for eligible students and perform onsite interviews. This gives students an immediate decision on their future.

Requirements for students who may want to apply for admission and scholarships to participating colleges and universities at the scholarship fair include:

- 2.8 or better grade point avarage on a scale of 4.0

- ACT score of 21 or better or SAT score of 1650 or better

- updated resume

- a 250-word essay explaining "Why a Higher Education Is Important to You"

- an admission ticket that can be printed once online registration is completed

Online registration is required for students interested in applying to colleges and universities that will be represented at the scholarship fair. The registration process can be completed at www.mohela.com/infinitescholar.
