DYER | Police are accepting donations to help restart their canine program.
Rex, a police dog with the town for five years, recently retired. The cost of acquiring a new dog, training the dog and training its handler is about $16,000, Detective Cmdr. Joe Cinko said.
The department hopes grants and donations can pay for those costs, he said.
A $1,000 donation arrived Friday from Stan's Towing.
"We just wanted to get the donations started off in the right direction," said Chip Lukasik, of Stan's Towing.
Donations can be sent to Dyer Police Department, K9 Program, 2150 Hart St., Dyer, IN 46311. -- By Times Staff
