Denny Moynihan hopes to connect his IUPUI learning experience to what's happening currently in the world.
Moynihan, 19, son of Dennis and Mary Moynihan of Highland, and a freshman at the Indianapolis campus of Indiana University-Purdue University, recently changed his major from biology to business, with emphasis in finance or marketing. He will be applying to the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis, rich in real-world learning opportunities.
He received an academic and athletic scholarship. Moynihan plays soccer for IUPUI. This semester he is taking more classes than last when he was busy practicing and playing soccer for the school. He aptly juggled academics and athletics earning a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Moynihan also became involved on campus with Student Athletic Association Commission and joined fellow athletes in helping raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Next year he hopes to get involved in more campus activities.
A 2009 graduate of Highland High School, Moynihan was ranked sixth in his class with a 4.36 grade point average, also on a 4.0 scale. He took a number of Advanced Placement and honors courses that helped prepare him for college and spark his interest in business. He completed a number of courses offered on the subject including personal finance, entrepreneurship and business law.
Moynihan was a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Key Club, a service group affiliated with Kiwanis Club.
A member of Our Lady of Grace in Highland, Moynihan was enrolled in religious education classes as a youth and received the sacraments of Holy Communion and confirmation.
