CROWN POINT | An Oct. 14 opening is planned for Bickford Senior Living, the most recent addition to the city's flourishing Broadway corridor.
The $4.5 million project began late last summer at the northeast corner of Broadway and 107th Avenue.
Finishing touches are being added to interiors of the facility's 42 assisted living apartments and 16 memory-care units ahead of the mid-October opening, Bickford spokeswoman Tanya Planer said.
Bickford officials have nearly finished hiring about 45 staff members, including nurses and other care providers, Planer said.
Among events leading up to opening day are an Oct. 11 interfaith prayer service and branch blessing, Bickford dementia programming presentations on Oct. 12 and senior grand buffet on Oct. 13.
An open house and branch tours are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
The Bickford opening follows news of a planned Culver's restaurant at Broadway and Summit Street in Crown Point.
The 4,200-square-foot eatery is expected to open by early next year in the Crown Village commercial development, at the northwest corner of the intersection.
A 13,000-square-foot building meant to house offices is being built at the southwest corner of Summit and Broadway by developer Greg Valenti.
City officials in July approved plans for a 6,000-square-foot medical office building to be constructed in the Beacon Hill commercial development at the northeast corner of Broadway and 109th Avenue.
A $2.2 million Speedway gas station opened early this year at the Broadway and 109th Avenue southwest intersection.
City officials attribute growth on the city's east side in part to the 2010 opening of the 109th Avenue interchange off of Interstate 65, providing a gateway west to Broadway and to the center of the city.
