Two bridge projects are giving drivers in west Lake County the summer road construction blues, and summer doesn't even start until Saturday.

The CSX Railroad is repairing the bridge over U.S. 231 west of Crown Point. The road closed between U.S. 41 and Parrish Avenue on June 9 and will remain closed until June 25 for the repairs, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The other bridge project is on U.S. 41 just north of U.S. 231, where INDOT is replacing the bridge over a branch of West Creek.

INDOT spokesman Will Wingfield said Ellas Construction, of Munster, was awarded the $1 million contract in February. The work is scheduled to be done late this year.

Drivers can monitor road closures and traffic alerts at any time on the INDOT social media channels: or Twitter@INDOTNorthwest. They also can visit for the department's Traffic Wise Traveler Information Service.
