CROWN POINT | East 109th Avenue at Interstate 65 will be closed June 1 until further notice, according to a statement from the city's engineering department.
The closure is due to work on the new interchange at 109th Avenue. It was anticipated by project planners.
The road will be closed between Delaware Parkway and Iowa Street. Detour signs will be posted, said City Engineering Administrator Gerard Abraham.
Angie Fegaras, the Indiana Department of Transportation's communication director, said last month the interchange is expected to be completed and open to traffic in September.
Construction began last summer, a year later than anticipated, because all the right of way hadn't been acquired.
The project has been in the works since 2002. It was fast-tracked with help from $10 million in federal grants. Crown Point also helped accelerate the project by paying some of its expenses, which the state reimbursed.
The Federal Highway Administration will pay 80 percent of the project with INDOT covering the rest.
