CEDAR LAKE | A Cedar Lake woman is charged with three felonies in an alleged Sunday burglary at Lake Liquors, 13146 Wicker Ave.

Police said they were called at 7 a.m. Monday by an employee, who reported the burglary. The investigation by Cedar Lake Detective Carl Brittingham revealed Suzanne Merrick-Ham, an employee of the store, allegedly committed the burglary with her boyfriend, James McLaughlin, of Country Club Hills, Ill., police said.

Brittingham said Merrick-Ham provided McLaughlin with the store key and the access code to disable the alarm. A large amount of cash, liquor and cigarettes were taken from the store, police said.

A search of Merrick-Ham's apartment recovered a small amount of money and other evidence related to the burglary, police said.

Merrick-Ham was arrested at her apartment without incident, but McLaughlin had gone to an unknown location in Illinois, police said. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Merrick-Ham is charged with two counts of burglary and one of theft.
