CEDAR LAKE | A 32-year-old Cedar Lake man found dead following a house fire Wednesday morning was an apparent homicide victim, the Lake County coroner reported Wednesday.

Adam Giordano had wounds to his neck and chest along with second- and third-degree burns, according to the coroner's office. Giordano’s cause of death was listed as “pending" as of Wednesday.

The Cedar Lake police and fire departments brought in the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force and Indiana Fire Marshal to investigate what they are calling a suspicious death and fire.

Northwest Indiana Transit Police Chief Robert Byrd, spokesman for the task force, confirmed his unit was called to 14741 Cline Ave. to assist in an “apparent homicide investigation.”

Cedar Lake Fire Chief Todd Wilkening confirmed the Indiana State Fire Marshal is conducting an investigation at the scene as well. Wilkening referred all other questions to the Police Department.

Cedar Lake Police Chief Randall Mayersky could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
