CEDAR LAKE | The town has accepted a land donation that will help it continue to build a proposed green corridor along Founder and Cedar creeks.

The Cedar Lake Town Council accepted the property, 7400 W. 140th St., outlot A, from Vera Corning during a special meeting before its November study session.

Cedar Lake is trying to create a multiuse trail along the creeks that would be part of an eventual environmental/recreation corridor connecting Cedar Lake with Lemon Lake and Lake Dalecarlia.

Earlier this year, Cedar Lake received a planning grant from the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission via funding from the Donnelly Foundation. The grant will be used to identify ways to preserve corridor wetlands, forest areas and recreational opportunities such as a multiuse trail.

The trail will be years in the making because the town will have to acquire funds and additional land to make it happen.
