CEDAR LAKE | The Cedar Lake Town Council has approved a resolution establishing an online utility bill payment system.
The vendor for the system will be Point and Pay.
Clerk-Treasurer Amy Gross said residents will be able to go to the town’s website and click on a portal that will take them to a site where they can pay their bills.
Residents will be charged a 3 percent convenience fee for each transaction. There also will be a fee associated with paying by credit card.
Those who pay by cash or check pay no fee.
The town also is working on a system where residents can pay citations online and plans to accept credit card payments for pet licenses, Gross said.
Because pet owners must present their pets’ vaccination records during the license process, there are no immediate plans for an online payment system for pet licenses.
