CEDAR LAKE | The Town Council on Tuesday accepted a small piece of right of way along 133rd Avenue.
The donation was one of three during what was a short public meeting preceding Cedar Lake’s National Night Out observance.
The right of way, valued at $8,300, is a small strip of property on the north side of 133rd at Cline Avenue. The land was donated by the Taylor Trust. The town has just begun work on the second phase of widening 133rd Avenue.
The council also accepted a $1,548 donation on behalf of Cedar Lake’s Volunteers in Police Service. The Summerfest committee donated the money as a thank you to VIPS for directing traffic during this year’s festival.
VIPS will put the money toward a lighting system that will help when volunteers direct traffic in the future, Police Chief Jerry Smith said.
VIPS members were on hand for the Police Department’s National Night Out event, in addition to fire and police personnel. The department also provided refreshments, including hot dogs, chips and beverages.
