CEDAR LAKE | The question of window tint for police cars has been moved to this month's study session.
Police commissioners decided in April to discuss the matter further when they meet this month. They have reviewed three potential tinting options; the samples were provided by Broadway Glass, which has facilities in Schererville and Merrillville.
If window tint is ultimately allowed, officers will have to pay out-of-pocket to outfit their cars. Tinting would be allowed on the back window and along the sides.
Officers say that window tint will reduce glare when they're patrolling.
Police commissioners had mixed feelings about the issue.
Commissioner Gregory Rambo said he was concerned about "what kind of message this sends to the public."
