CROWN POINT | A Cedar Lake man charged with attempted murder and other charges for choking and shooting at his wife was sentenced Thursday to 30 months in prison with all but six months suspended.
Leslie Falk, 42, agreed to the sentence in striking a plea agreement with the state in May. Probation requirements include participating in drug treatment and batterers' programs.
Falk pleaded guilty to charges of domestic battery and criminal recklessness, both felonies, in exchange for dismissal of the remaining counts, which included strangulation, intimidation, neglect of a dependent, attempted battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime.
Falk admitted to squeezing his wife's neck in the presence of their son and firing a handgun in the couple's living room, missing the woman and the child and lodging bullets in the wall above the woman's head.
