CEDAR LAKE | It is now possible to "like" or "follow" the town of Cedar Lake on Facebook and Twitter, thanks to Town Manager Ian Nicolini’s new assistant.
Administrative assistant Nicole Hoekstra spent her first weeks on the job getting the town a presence on social media, she told the Town Council at its May study session.
The town already had a website, but Hoekstra established a Facebook page and a Twitter account. All Facebook posts go immediately into the Twitter feed.
Hoekstra will be posting photographs, announcements and information.
Hoekstra is also developing a newsletter that will be available online and in print form, the latter of which will be sent along with monthly utility bills. The first newsletter may be available as early as June.
It’s all part of the town’s effort to keep communication lines open with its residents, Nicolini said.
“I think it’s awesome,” Town Council President Randy Niemeyer said.
He and other council members meet with the public often, and one of the public’s top concerns always has been how to find information about meetings and other happenings, he said.
