CEDAR LAKE | Summerfest officials are welcoming the fest’s 31st year with laser light shows, huge fireworks displays and a host of daily activities.
*The Run Around the Lake, which had been scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled.
*The laser light shows are at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, 10:30 p.m. Friday and 9:40 p.m. Sunday.
The fireworks displays are at 9:30 p.m. Friday and the show billed as "extravagant" is at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Summerfest runs Wednesday through Sunday lakeside at the Town Complex, 7408 Constitution Ave., Cedar Lake. Admission to the festival is free, but there is a $5 charge for parking in the Town Complex.
The festival has an unusual July 4 starting date, officials said, because a Wednesday kick-off better suited the availability of Summerfest’s carnival midway provider.
Although town-supported, Summerfest is organized and operated by volunteers.
The carnival midway is open daily, though hours vary. Other daily attractions include a beer tent, bingo tent, beer garden and food booths.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, 5 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
