CEDAR LAKE | A timeline for the Safe Routes to School project may have been optimistic, Town Manager Ian Nicolini has told the Town Council.
Right of way proposals for five to six parcels, one of which is owned by the town, will be going out by the end of the month.
The sidewalks meant to connect nearby neighborhoods with Jane Ball Elementary School may not be ready in July, the targeted completion date, Nicolini said.
The town received a Safe Routes to School grant to build the sidewalks in the areas of 133rd, Parrish and 137th avenues, in 2011. Right of way along those routes must be obtained before the project can go forward.
