CEDAR LAKE | Although the town will be maintaining an additional 6.3 miles of roads, there's no guarantee Cedar Lake will see more tax money from the state, town officials said.

The state uses population figures and road mileage to compute a community’s share of gasoline taxes.

The Plan Commission on Wednesday accepted the roads in Monastery Woods north, Krystal Woods, Lynnsway subdivision and Centennial phases one through four.

Because each road involves special circumstances, the Plan Commission had to take action before sending information on to the state.

The acceptance puts the total road mileage within town at 66.2 miles.

“A 10 percent (increase) is nothing to sneeze at,” Nicolini said.

However, the increase does not guarantee the town will see a 10 percent bump in tax revenue, he said.
