CEDAR LAKE | Town administrator Ian Nicolini got a promotion Tuesday night.
The Town Council unanimously approved him as town manager during its regular business meeting. According to state statute, Nicolini’s new job gives him authority over town personnel, including hiring and evaluation.
“I’m humbled and honored by the appointment,” said Nicolini, who has been with the town since 2007. “I’m excited about my (expanded) responsibilities and where the town is headed. I appreciate the opportunity.”
Cedar Lake has not had a town manager since 2007. Nicolini’s annual salary will be $70,000, $5,000 less than the previous town manager earned.
The Town Council also authorized the use of redevelopment funds to pay 7 percent of Nicolini’s salary. The Redevelopment Commission signed off on the plan at its meeting.
Nicolini was hired as assistant town manager in 2007. A year later, he was hired as town administrator. He earned a master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University.
