CROWN POINT | A Merrillville woman and two Crown Point men were charged Monday in connection with two burglaries last week in south Lake County.
Jessica Spillers, 26, and Brian Erwin, 27, are accused of burglarizing homes near Cedar Lake and Crown Point. Phillip Lowry, 28, admitted to driving the car used in the burglaries, according to court records.
Each is charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of residential entry and a single charge of theft.
Police said last week they were called at 11:22 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a break-in at a home in the 11800 block of Cline Avenue, north of Cedar Lake and west of Crown Point.
A witness said the suspects were driving a white four-door older-model vehicle, police said.
Officers were searching for the car when they received a report minutes later of a second burglary in the 3300 block of East U.S. 231, seven miles to the east, police said.
A officer spotted the car near U.S. 231 and Iowa Street and stopped it one mile south as it was approaching a home on East 137th Avenue, police said.
Erwin and Spillers also admitted to breaking into a third home in Lake County, according to court records. The alleged burglary remains under investigation.
