CEDAR LAKE | The Hanover School Board on Tuesday approved hiring an elementary school principal and a district athletic director.
The board approved the appointment of Kevin Bachinski as athletic director and Deborah Snedden as the new principal of Jane Ball Elementary School. Former athletic director Jeff Brooks left the post for a new job in Hebron earlier this spring, and former Principal Terry Crussen left Jane Ball for a job in Merrillville.
Bachinski was serving as assistant principal of Hanover Middle School at the time of his appointment as athletic director.
Superintendent Thomas Taylor said he was impressed with Bachinski.
“During the interview process, I (was struck by) his passion for athletics,” Taylor said. “He’s had an extensive background as a player and coach.”
As athletic director, Bachinski will oversee programs for student athletes in sixth through 12th grade.
Snedden, a graduate of Ball State University, most recently served as assistant principal of Hammond Academy of Science and Technology. She also worked as a gifted and talented facilitator in the Crown Point Community School Corp.
“I wanted to thank you very much for entrusting me to lead Jane Ball,” she said after her appointment.
As a mother of seven, “I see a lot of (things) through a different lens,” Snedden said.
