CEDAR LAKE | A Hanover High School student was honored for her community service and athletic accomplishments during the Hanover Board of Trustees’ June meeting.

Kaylin Fanta was given the Prudential Spirit of Community Medallion by a Prudential representative and also recognized as an IUN/Region/Sports.com Academic All-star in Track.

Fanta is the founder of a student-run charity that supplies low-income students with school supplies. Since its inception in 2003, Watts Backpack Baggers have collected and donated backpacks, lunch boxes, clothes, shoes and other items.

Fanta was also named a Hoosier Rising Star by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman in 2007, and in 2010 was one of the winners of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Power of Children awards.
