CEDAR LAKE | The Hanover Community School Corp. almost has a new superintendent, but district officials first will have to go through a state-mandated public hearing process.
Per state law, the Hanover School Board must host a public hearing on the new superintendent’s proposed contract May 28. The board then will cast its final vote, presumably to approve the contract, June 3.
The board currently has a verbal agreement with a candidate, board President Mary Joan Dickson said. The candidate’s name was not released.
Interim Superintendent James Thorne’s contract runs out at the end of this month. He starts a new job, as executive director of the DuPage Area Occupational Education System in Addison, Ill., on July 1.
Thorne is the second professional to fill in as superintendent since Carol Kaiser resigned in December. Thorne replaced Richard Cook, who served as interim superintendent immediately after Kaiser resigned.
Ads for the superintendent position were posted April 5, and the search process has been ongoing since then. Thorne was on hand to engage with the board and various district personnel during the Hanover School Board meeting Tuesday. He pledged to work with the district for a “smooth transition."
