CEDAR LAKE | The Hanover School Board on Tuesday recognized a slate of students for recent achievements.

Eight Jane Ball Elementary School students were given certificates for their outstanding participation in the America Math Competition last year.

More than 150,000 students from about 2,200 schools nationwide competed in 2013. Of the Jane Ball students, Nick Brazzale, Nathan Remaley and Michael Vega attained a gold ranking. Megan Wright and Stanley Galbreath finished with a silver ranking, and Avery Booker, Nathan Faraher and Luke Baswell attained bronze. Remaley finished with the highest score of the group.

Hanover Central High School students Megan Erickson and Alex Nirtaut were commended for being chosen to participate in this year’s South Shore Leadership Youth for Community Engagement Program.

Joshua Jackowski, also a high school student, was recognized for his Eagle Scout project. Jackowski built a handicapped-accessible ramp at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Merrillville.
