CEDAR LAKE | A Hanover Central High School student has been honored for his work on creating a few new details in Kiwanis Park.

Boy Scout Nick Davenport received a commendation from the Hanover School Corp. for his work in installing a fountain and patio in the park as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Kiwanis Park, 9502 W. 137th Ave. in Cedar Lake, was tapped for a water line extension last summer. Officials decided that improvements to the park will be so extensive that water on-site will be needed.

It was announced in March 2012 that volunteers will plant a “pizza” garden containing tomatoes, peppers, basil, oregano and other plants.

In addition to the garden and Davenport’s project, the town plans to install a drinking fountain and two community shelters.
