CEDAR LAKE | Carol Kaiser, the superintendent for the Hanover Community School Corp., has been placed on paid administrative leave pending board action, a board member said.
Kaiser, who became superintendent Nov. 1, 2008, signed a three-year contract with a starting salary of $100,000 a year plus benefits. A Robertsdale native, Kaiser had been the superintendent of the Smith-Green Community School Corp. in Churubusco, Ind. She also was principal at South Newton High School.
Kaiser signed a new contract this summer that calls for her to be paid $114,010. Her contract ends June 30, 2015.
School Board member Patricia Kocot said she received a call from Hanover School Board President Dana Griner on Wednesday night telling her Kaiser had been placed on administrative leave pending board action.
"But as far as the board is concerned, we have not voted on anything," Kocot said. "I've not done anything or voted on anything. I'm there until Dec. 31."
Kocot, who is a previous School Board president, lost the election to Mary Pat Burkel. Griner did not run for re-election to her 1st District seat. The new board member will be Dennis Wilkening. Mary Joan Dickson was re-elected to her at-large seat. The other two board members, who were not up for re-election, are Julie Mueller and James Sakalaris.
Neither School Board President Griner nor School Board attorney William Kaminski returned calls for comment. Kaiser also could not be reached for comment.
Richard Cook, who served as an interim superintendent previously in Hanover, is again at the helm.
