CEDAR LAKE | Cedar Lake Hometown Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Town Complex, 7408 Constitution Ave.
Sponsored by the Cedar Lake Summerfest Committee, this annual fall festival offers vendors selling a variety of crafts and flea market items.
Food vendors include Cedar Lake Girls Softball League with brats, hot dogs and hamburgers; St Michael Polish Catholic Church with baked goods; MacArthur Elementary School with cotton candy and baked treats; Hanover Central High School Key Club with popcorn; and Pascale’s serving pizza.
The day will begin with a flag ceremony, music and cup stacking. Registration for the Pie Baking Contest and Cookie Contest for Kids is from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Cedar Lake Parks and Recreation Department office.
A Petting Zoo will be featured from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Carnival games hosted by the HC Key Club begin at noon and continue through 6 pm. Free train rides are offered from noon to 4 p.m.
Activities also will include a Cake Walk and tours of Lake of the Red Cedars Museum sponsored by the Cedar Lake Historical Association.
New this year will be an Incredible Duck Splash sponsored by the Cedar Lake Kiwanis Club and Key Club at 3 p.m. To sponsor a duck, call (219) 306-2919. Prizes include $250, gift certificates and gift baskets.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for the The Project Love Food Pantry and an opportunity to win a $25 gift card.
“This event is very feasible for families as many of the activities are free,” Chairman June Cole said.
