CEDAR LAKE | The kindergarten classes at Jane Ball Elementary School celebrated Earth Day recently by painting t-shirts and learning how they can reduce, reuse, and recycle. The students talked about ways to save water like turning off the faucets when brushing their teeth.

Earth Day first began on April 22, 1970, when 20 million people across the United States celebrated nature.

Many cities have turned Earth Day into a week-long celebration with events that educate children about the environment and encourage greater participation by the community in local green causes.
