CEDAR LAKE | The Town Council approved a variance for a site that has been the subject of controversy in the recent past.
The Cedar Lake council approved a special use variance for 8600 W. 139th Court. The Board of Zoning Appeals earlier sent a favorable recommendation on the request to the council.
Property owner Terri Cox previously ran into some opposition from the site’s neighbors because of a bad experience with businesses at the site.
A local masonry company, the owner of which lives in the neighborhood, will be using the existing building on-site as office space, Cox told the council before its vote.
Many of the concerns broached earlier by neighbors have been addressed in the language of the variance. For example, there will be no outdoor storage, overnight parking, service vehicles or shop operations. Residents had complained about excess traffic and other problems when businesses operated there in the past.
