CEDAR LAKE | New interim Superintendent James Thorne presided over his first Hanover School Board meeting Tuesday.
“It’s always a good way to begin,” Thorne said, noting the agenda of his first meeting started out with six student commendations.
Thorne was appointed by the board during a special meeting last month. He replaced Richard Cook, who had been serving as interim superintendent since December.
Thorne, who formerly served as superintendent of Westville schools, has a superintendent’s license and will be able to work full time for Hanover Community School Corp. Thorne’s contract as interim superintendent will run through June 1
The district has been without a permanent superintendent since Carol Kaiser resigned in December.
During the meeting, Thorne thanked the Hanover principals he already had met with.
“I look forward to (working) with folks,” he said.
Thorne’s last post in education had been with Westville, he said. Before accepting Hanover’s interim offer, he had a position with Pearson, an educational services company.
“I missed the kids and wanted to get back into education,” he said.
Thorne, a Valparaiso resident, also served as assistant superintendent for the School City of Hobart and as building administrator for Chesterton High School and Liberty Intermediate School.
