CEDAR LAKE | Linda Brumbaugh, who sponsored and is the 8th grade American History teacher, took ninety-four (94) 8th and 7th grade students, along with staff members and parents, from Hanover Central Middle School to Washington D.C. and Gettysburg, PA. October 17th-21st.
Classroom time prior to the trip had been spent learning about the monuments and the history behind each one of them and students learned about the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier by guest speaker, Ted Henderson, who had been a guard at the tomb.
Besides visiting all of the monuments, we toured our Nation’s Capitol, Supreme Court and the Library of Congress, but the highlight of our trip, was laying a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. These students representing Hanover Central Middle School were: Eric Lakomek, Ryan Hinton, Victoria Pena, and Allison Novorita.
We then traveled to Gettysburg, PA where students enjoyed learning about the town and battle that took place 150 years ago, and visiting the cemetery where President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous speech.
After returning home, Mrs. Brumbaugh said that “ students were eager to share their experiences with others in the classroom, and we will continue to use this information as we study more about our nation.”
